How to Successfully Include Your Dog in Your Wedding Day

On your wedding day, you want to include all of the important people in your life. If you have an important pooch too they should be included as well. That having been said, how can you include a man’s (or woman’s) best friend most effectively in your wedding. Puppies can be unpredictable but you have several options of which one should fit the bill. Several celebrities have successfully included their canines in their wedding celebrations so you can too.

Why Include Your Canine Friend in Your Wedding?

The old saying that a dog is a man’s best friend is true. Your pooch is attached to you and you love your pooch. He or she will be part of your family going forward. You don’t need to make your dog the star of the show unless they are easy to train and can simply be a guest of honor. Pets are great for relieving stress and, because weddings can be stressful, having Fido there can be a real plus for taking the edge off of your anxiety. And, think of the cute extra snapshots that you will have of your dog when he or she attends your nuptials.

What Role Will Fido Play at Your Wedding?

The most simple and easy role for your dog to play at the wedding is as a guest of honor. He or she can simply hang out with someone they are comfortable with and observe the proceedings (or snooze). For an attentive and happy pooch, being one of the greeters is a useful job that will put your dog at the center of attention but not exactly in the wedding ceremony.

Ring-bearer Dog

For a dog that is well-trained and trainable, a cute role in the wedding is that of ring bearer. Because the wedding rings are central to the wedding ceremony, this puts your pooch in a central role. Of course, he or she will not have to carry and hold the rings but rather simply carry a ring cushion attached to a collar and wait patiently for the time to come for the wedding rings to be removed from their cushion and used in the wedding ceremony.

Leading the Walk Down the Aisle

Rather than having a favorite niece and nephew lead the walk down the aisle at your wedding, you might consider having them do the walk with your pooch or have Fido lead the way. From there he or she could exit stage left to spend the rest of the ceremony with a trusted friend or relative.

Getting Your Dog Ready for the Big Day

Your choice of a role on the wedding day for your dog will depend on his or her personality. And, if you choose an active role for pooch you will want to practice, practice, and practice. And, on the day of the wedding you will be intensely busy yourself so you will need to make certain that someone is available to attend to the normal needs and routine of your dog. This will include keeping the pooch occupied when he or she is not involved in the festivities but especially on the night of the wedding.
