10 Steps to a Better Engagement Ring Selfie

Congratulations! You are now engaged, and you want to show off your new shiny jewelry to the world. But hold on a second! The picture should be perfect for capturing a great moment in your life. We’ve compiled ten steps to taking a better engagement ring selfie. We’re here to help, so read on!

1. Make sure your nails are done

Face it; nobody wants to see untrimmed or torn nails. Your fiance might’ve caught you by surprise with his proposal when you haven’t had a chance to have a manicure. There are a few ways not to show your nails. Make sure to lotion your hands before taking the photo. You can frame your nails out of the picture, hold a fist pump pose or hold hands with your fiance. These are a few ways to show off your beautiful new engagement ring without having fresh nails.

2. Have proper lighting

Ensure that the area or background of your photo is well-lit. If you’re taking the picture indoors, use natural lighting ideally facing away from you. The easiest way is to stand next to a window, pose, and snap the photo! When taking the photo outdoors, avoid being in a position where there are shadows from the sun. Also, never use a flash when taking a photo. It will cause an unnecessary flare effect or change the appearance of your engagement ring. Everyone wants to see your beautiful ring in its best light!

3. Use fun or adventurous background

Most people post their engagement photos all over social media, including Facebook and Instagram. Find a social media-worthy background such as a patterned pillow, skyline, or breathtaking landscape as your background for your ring selfie.

4. Don’t zoom in

Ideally, you want to use a DLS camera because smartphones won’t create a fully professional photo. However, there are a few methods to make the photo crisp and clean. First off, never zoom in while taking the picture. Physically move the phone closer or farther away as needed to prevent a blurry or pixelated picture.

5. Make sure to focus

For iPhone users, make sure to tap the screen in the location you want the lens to focus on. The iPhone even allows you to alter the brightness sensitivity by sliding the sun icon that appears. Simply tap on the sun icon and drag it up and down. Do not take shaky or grainy photos by tapping your earbuds or tapping the side button to take a photo. Tap the screen to take your photo instead.

6. Do a pose

Strike a pose to avoid your hands looking weird or stiff. Keep your fingers relax and use props or simply put your hand on your fiance’s arm. Also, do not take photos that show the granular details of the hair or pores on your hand. Tilt the camera or your hand slightly to avoid this rather than taking the photo straight on.

7. Take multiple pictures to have options

Do not use photo collages when sharing the photo. Take many different pictures, but settle on your favorite option that best features your engagement ring and hand!

8. Use angles

You can showcase the best qualities of your hand and the engagement ring by experimenting with different angles. If you prefer to highlight the setting of the photo, you can change the angle to highlight it. Or maybe you want to show off the shape of the diamond cut of your stone, try taking an overhead shot.

9. Edit the photo before posting

Always edit your photos before sharing them. You can use many apps such as Photoshop Express or the Photos app. These apps help to make your photos shine. It can adjust the photo by adjusting the contrast, brightness, sharpness, saturation, or cropping the photo.

10. Share your engagement photo!

There’s one more thing you need to do before posting! Write a heartfelt caption about being together with your best friend for life. Get creative by tagging the location of the proposal and selectively using your favorite emoji. Now you’re ready to share the engagement ring photo on social media!
